CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. - A road crew worker is dead after a car drove into the emergency lane on Interstate 20, striking four workers near the exit for Georgia 61, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Police say they suspect the driver of the Honda Civic was impaired. The incident occurred around 3:10 a.m. on Friday.
The car was traveling westbound and struck the road crew working between the interstate and the exit ramp for GA-61, according to authorities.
The driver was extricated from the car after the crash, and was airlifted, along with one worker, to an Atlanta-area hospital. A second worker was taken by ground to an Atlanta-area hospital. A third worker was taken by ground to Tanner Villa Rica, and was already discharged.
The worker who dies was pronounced deceased on the scene, according to police.
