Tree hits home on Conway Manor Drive, NW Atlanta

Heavy rain and strong winds brought down a number of trees in metro Atlanta and north Georgia Friday morning. Those downed trees led to thousands of power outages.

At 4 p.m. Friday, Georgia Power and the Georgia EMCs reported about 4,288 outages statewide. The majority of those were in Rabun County, where nearly 1,540 customers were without power. Georgia Power reported that number had been cut in half since noon.

One large tree fell on a home on Conway Manor Drive in northwest Atlanta. The couple who lives there was awakened by the sound of the tree coming down on the house. Emergency crews responded to the scene quickly. No one was injured.

A number of trees fell, blocking roads near downtown Norcross, city officials said. Scattered power outages were reported there, as well. Holcomb Bridge Road was blocked as emergency crews worked to clear the street. Traffic delays were reported in the area Friday morning.

Additional reports of downed trees came in from Sandy Springs Friday morning, along Mt. Vernon Highway and Dunwoody Club Drive.
