Weather balloon shuts down portion of Downtown Atlanta

- A weather balloon falling from the sky shut down part of downtown Atlanta during the morning commute Thursday.

It landed on Washington Street not far from the State Capitol.

Police closed Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Washington Street while they investigated.

They eventually determined that it was a weather balloon.

The balloons are launched by the National Weather Service daily.
