MCDONOUGH, Ga. - Police have charged a man for a deadly hit-and-run involving a teenager in Henry County this week.
Robert Huynh, 19, was arrested at his McDonough home Wednesday evening, according to the Henry County Police Department. He is accused of killing 16-year-old Tasia Gartener after hitting her with his vehicle on State Road 81 Monday night.
Surveillance video from a nearby business showed Gartener and her friend running across the road just before the teen was struck. In the video, Gartener's friend first crossed successfully and waited. Then, Gartener let a car to her left pass before entering the roadway. Police said that is when she was struck by a car from her right.
"The investigator, in this case, found certain pieces of the vehicle at the location and that turned out to be a big break in the case," according to Captain. Mike Ireland.
Investigators took those car pieces to a body shop and it was determined they were parts of a Honda Fit.
Investigators determined there are 200 Fit owners who live in the area. Officers started knocking on doors and quickly zeroed in on Quinn.
Huynh is facing a number of charges, including hit and run resulting in death, failure to report the accident and vehicular homicide in the 1st degree. He was arrested without incident, police said.
Huynh’s first appearance in court is scheduled for August 2 at 2 p.m. in Henry County Magistrate Court.
