An 87-year-old woman miraculously walked away from a horrific car crash, after Sandy Springs Police said the driver accidentally caused her Mercedes to flip onto the driver's side.

Surveillance showed the terrifying collision between the driver's SUV and at least one other vehicle, and also showed how bystanders rushed to help the woman escape.

The ordeal happened Thursday afternoon at the Northridge Shopping Center. The family of the woman said she was planning on going to the nail salon, when police said she accidentally stepped on the gas pedal while attempting to park; the woman's vehicle then slammed into at least one car, before flipping on its side.

"We heard a noise. We looked out the window and saw the car flipped over," said Nancy Igharo, who rushed out of the nearby braid salon to the accident outside.

The video showed people running to the vehicle, then someone opening the SUV's trunk and numerous people trying to clear items from the trunk to help the driver escape.

"The way the car was turned over, it looked like she was trapped under the car," said barber Shawn Cummings, who rushed out of his barber shop to witness the aftermath.

"She was trying to get out. They told her, 'don't get out of the car,' so she just waited," Igharo said.

First responders seen on cell phone video pulled the driver out of the sunroof. The woman, her family said, only suffered a scratch to her hand.

Though the family declined to speak on camera to FOX 5, they said they are grateful for all the people on video who aided their loved one.

"It is a miracle," Igharo said.
