Victims react to 'not guilty' verdict in carjacking case

- Two Buckhead carjack victims are stunned after a jury found the man accused of attacking them “not guilty” last week.

The verdict for Carlos Twine came down last Friday afternoon at the Fulton County Courthouse.

The news is disturbing to 70-year-old carjacking victim Anita Thomas who was attacked at gunpoint in the Neiman Marcus Parking lot at Lenox Square Mall and a young mother , whose does not want to be identified. The second victim was attacked in the OK Cafe Parking lot on West Paces Ferry Road, several hours later.

Both carjackings happened in June. Atlanta police arrested Twine just two hours after the second carjacking in the restaurant parking lot.

Councilwoman Mary Norwood, who is on the Atlanta Public Safety Committee, wants answers. She has asked for a briefing from Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard and new Atlanta Police Chief Erika Sheilds.

“The idea that we would have victims go through months and months of trial preparation and then at the end of the day there was some fault in the system and this person exonerated of all charges,” the council woman said. “We need to find out what happened here.”
