Uber, Lyft team up, offer homeless vets free rides to job interviews

Veterans who have fallen on hard times can soon receive free rides to job interviews and other employment events, in a new partnership among the major ride-hailing companies Uber and Lyft, the White House revealed Tuesday.

Job and employment counselors would help administer the rides for homeless veterans, according to the White House. Lyft has not revealed a specific number of rides, but Uber committed 10,000 rides over the coming year, worth roughly $125,000 in all.

Uber announced that all riders on Veterans Day will have opportunities to donate to the cause.

"It is remarkable to see competitors come together to support our veterans," said Colonel Nicole Malachowski, Executive Director of the White House's Joining Forces Initiative, formed to support veterans and military families.
