Teen charged with 2 sexual assaults, including rape of disabled teen

Police said a Duluth teen sexually assaulted two girls within 10 days. In one case, 18-year-old Chris Carter is accused by police of being involved in the gang rape of a mentally disabled teen.

"We connected Chris Carter to the two separated crimes," said Duluth Police Officer Ted Sadowski.

In mid-March, a 15-year-old Duluth High School girl told a counselor that Chris Carter sexually assaulted her in the bathroom at the Town Green in Duluth. Police said the girl told police she went into the bathroom and Carter followed her. They started kissing, but when Carter got aggressive, she wanted to leave. Police said Carter held her there against her will and sexually assaulted her.

Carter was charged with sexual battery against a child, child molestation, and false imprisonment. He bonded out of jail a week later.

Police said after he bonded out, they learned of an earlier assault. A 19-year-old special needs girl told police Carter and two younger boys, a 14 and 15-year-old, assaulted her at an apartment complex March 3. Friends had gathered there for a birthday party. Police said at one point, the adults stepped away, that's when the rape occurred.

"They forced her into a bedroom, closed the door and forced her to do sexual acts," said Officer Sadowski going on to confirm that it was a gang rape.

Carter remained behind bars at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond Friday. The 14 and 15-year-olds are in the Youth Detention Center, but they are being charged as adults. Those charges include rape, aggravated sodomy, and false imprisonment.
