Teacher arrested for inappropriate contact with students

- A Pickens High School teacher has been arrested on charges of inappropriate contact with several students. Deputies say the math teacher had sexual contact with at least one student and sent several others sexual messages using the social media app, Snapchat.

After receiving a tip about Daniel Culbreth, investigators obtained a warrant for access to his Snap Chat account.

Culbreth was arrested Thursday at the school and charged with sexual assault by persons with supervisory authority after investigators saw what he was sending students.

“Daniel Culbreth was in fact having multiple conversations with multiple students at Pickens High School that were sexual in nature. Some were conversations, some involved images, some involved meeting up,” said Captain Kris Stancil.

Stancil says investigators have already identified five students, but they believe there are more students involved.

“We're encouraging parents to get involved in social media,” said Stancil. “Look at who they're friends with, look what they're texting. What they're putting out on social media. See if they're friending teachers, especially at Pickens. If they're friends with Culbreth and what kind of communication they may be having."

Culbreth has taught at the school for the past five years.

Investigators believe there will be more charges filed against him, and they are in the process of obtaining warrants for access to Culbreth’s other social media accounts.
