SWAT situation in DeKalb County neighborhood

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - A neighborhood was placed on lockdown after a man barricaded himself inside a DeKalb County home Saturday afternoon.

It happened in the 4500 block of Idlwood Park near Lithonia around 3 p.m. DeKalb County Police said this started as a fight between a man and woman who have a child together. During the argument, the woman was injured and the man fired a shot, according to police.

The SWAT team was brought in to try to talk the man out of the home. Investigators said they have since learned the man was wanted on several outstanding warrants.

Police said the woman suffered only “superficial injuries” during the dispute, but was able to get out of the home before the man barricaded himself inside.

Residents were being kept far back from the home. Some residents told FOX 5 News they were asked to leave because of the situation.

Police say the SWAT situation ended after police located the suspect in the home dead of an "apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."
