Support for Amendment 2 grows

Georgia voters are finding four amendments on the ballot, one of which would set aside money to help victims of child sex trafficking and exploitation.

Amendment 2 calls for a $2 million fund to be established to provide care and support to young victims in Georgia.

Proponents held a news conference Thursday afternoon at the State Capitol to detail the extent of the problem here and to argue there's a moral imperative to heal the mental and physical damage to some 4,000 children every year.

The Safe Harbor for Sexually Exploited Children Fund would collect fines from convicted sex offenders and new taxes from strip clubs.

The NAACP announced Thursday it has dropped its opposition to Amendment 2, concluding that support for exploited children outweighs its concerns about what it calls an additional regressive tax.

Some opponents of amendment two also reject the supposed link between the adult entertainment industry and child sex trafficking.
