Zoo Atlanta teamed up with Verizon and the Atlanta Super Bowl Host Committee to help make Atlanta’s Super Bowl more green.

The Super Bowl E-Waste Recycling Rally took place Saturday at Zoo Atlanta. Area residents were encouraged to drop off all types of electronic waste to be recycled. The goal is to keep those items out of the landfill and help prevent the over mining for certain elements used in electronic devices that can lead to deforestation and endanger certain animals.

Computers, printers, monitors, cell phones, televisions, and more were all dropped off at the event. The first 250 families dropping off items to be recycled received a gift bag and a discount for admission to Zoo Atlanta. Participants also got a chance to meet mascot Zhu Zhu.

The event capped Green Week for Super Bowl LIII which saw the planting of several dozen trees in Atlanta and the donation and redistribution of used books.
