Nearly 30 girls at Alcovy High School in Covington enjoyed a day of full of empowering sessions Saturday.

The "Be Great and Do Great Things" Girls Summit was held at the school.

Volunteers, including teachers, counselors, and other professionals, spoke to participants on a wide range of topics such as social media, business, and planning your goals.

"We have to give back and pour into the lives of our young women. A lot of them don't have self-worth or love. We have to show them to love themselves because it's not always taught," Latavia Washington, the event organizer, said.

Tamika Ross, a mental health professional and 17-year law enforcement veteran, presented the keynote speech during a closing banquet.

"You have to know yourself regardless of what people may want you to be," Ross said. "Simply be yourself."
