Storms damage McDonough skating rink

The inline skate rink at John Alexander Memorial Park in McDonough can no longer be used following this week's strong storms.

High winds caused the walls around the skate rink to collapse, bending many of the heavy support beams in the process. As a result, the MYA inline hockey teams that practice there can no longer do so. The teams' season begins in just a few weeks and at this point, team coaches and leaders aren't sure what will happen next.

According to coach and Board Director Mike Ennis, the repairs could cost around $125,000. He said that is money the team just doesn't have. Currently, the team is working with city and Henry County officials to see what kind of repairs can be made.

There is also an online fundraiser set up to accept donations to help with the repairs.
