ATLANTA - Atlanta Police have detained at least one person after a car chase ended in a violent crash on Saturday in Southwest Atlanta. APD Officers attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop on a stolen car near Washington Pl. and Joseph E. Lowery when the driver refused to pull over.
FOX 5 obtained exclusive surveillance video from Beauty Depot showing the driver as he sped off through a Walmart parking lot and drove backwards to evade police. The car made a quick u-turn, but lost control and hit a brick wall outside the Walmart.
ONLY ON @FOX5Atlanta: The driver of that stolen sedan flips a u-turn as a woman exits the car falling to the ground. We have the FULL VIDEO of this car chase through a busy store parking lot coming up TONIGHT at 11. pic.twitter.com/Xw8LLNHRAS— Alexa Liacko FOX 5 (@AlexaLiackoFOX5) June 17, 2018
Employees at the Beauty Depot store say the sound of the impact was incredibly loud.
We spoke with the security guard for this beauty supply store who says the driver sped through the parking lot at a high speed trying to evade officers. She says the parking lot was full of people, so it’s a miracle no one was hit. pic.twitter.com/YLnKMLqZbe— Alexa Liacko FOX 5 (@AlexaLiackoFOX5) June 16, 2018
Right after the car hits the wall, surveillance video shows a woman falling out of the car while it's moving before the driver speeds off again.
Atlanta Police said the driver then turned the corner out of the parking lot and hit several other vehicles parked near James P. Brawley and Griffin St.
FOX 5 was there when two women were taken away by APD in handcuffs. One of the women appears to be the same woman who fell out of the car as it drove off in the surveillance video from the store.
