Spalding County fires two sheriff's deputies over comments

- The Spalding County Sheriff's Office said they fired two jailers over online comments sympathizing with Hitler and the founder of the American Nazi Party.

According to Sheriff Darrell Dix, the firings came after the leftist group Atlanta Anti-Fascists published social media posts made by officers Howard Costner and Jesse Jones.

Both Costner and Jones had been with the sheriff's office for less than a year.

Sheriff Dix issued the following statement:

"Both have been fired. Their poor choices should in no way be construed to reflect the beliefs of the Spalding County Sheriff's Office, deputies, detention officers, or staff.

“We pride ourselves in our relationships with our community and in no way condone the former employees’ actions or opinions.”
