Smyrna Police are looking for up to six men after a vehicle was stolen at a gas station, with a small child still inside.

Investigators said a man was pumping gas at the QuikTrip on the East West Connector on South Cobb Drive Tuesday night. He was on the passenger side of the car when another man jumped in the driver's seat and took off.

The thief led police on a chase before crashing on Cherokee Trail off Windy Hill Road. Investigators said there was another vehicle trailing behind, with a crew of men inside.  It had been stolen in DeKalb County.

All the suspects inside the vehicle bailed, according to police.

The bold crime has prompted officers to encourage the public to rethink their own safety measures at gas stations.

“These criminals are getting more bold and aggressive in their attempts to steal people's belongings. It is important that we all become more diligent and vigilant when it comes to protecting our families and our property. At this point, your best bet is just to lock your car and hold onto your keys while you pump your gas,” said Officer Louis Defense from Smyrna Police Department.

One man is now in custody. The child was not hurt.
