A Georgia family captured a scary highway encounter on camera after a small plane made an emergency landing on the highway in front of them.

The Carmichel family was driving to Mississippi on Interstate 20 West when the small plane made touchdown, barely missing a few cars on the stretch.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Rick Breitenfeldt says the flight originated from Talladega Municipal Airport and made the emergency landing Saturday afternoon.

Freddie Carmichel, who shot the crash on video, says he stopped to find out what happened.

According to the FAA says the single-engine plane was carrying two people – with the person behind the controls being a student pilot on his first flight.

Alabama State Troopers told reporters that the emergency landing was due to engine failure.

Thankfully no one was injured.
