LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. - The Lumpkin County Sheriff has identified a female victim of a murder in Kentucky.
Sheriff Stacy Jarrard said the department was contacted on Saturday by the Elizabethtown Police Department in Elizabethtown, Kentucky about a man they had in custody.
Officials say that 20-year-old Joseph Bryan Capstraw has been charged with the murder of a woman he says he met at a gathering in Lumpkin County.
The gathering was known at the Rainbow Family of Living Light Gathering, a massive gathering that this year was held in the area.
Officials asked Georgians to see if they know anything about the woman who accompanied Capstraw while they were hitchhiking from the gathering.
Now police say they've discovered the woman's identity, but they are not releasing the information until they a notification from Kentucky.
Sheriff Jarrard said the social media response was "instrumental in getting the word out" and thanked everyone who shared the story.
