Man arrested in Sandy Springs home invasion linked to multiple burglaries

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - A man arrested in a violent home invasion in Sandy Springs waived his first court appearance Tuesday morning.

Investigators said Demarco Parham, of Atlanta, broke into a home on Hunters Trace Circle early Monday morning and made off with some of the family’s belongings.

According to police, the homeowner was alerted by his home security system that a basement door had been opened. Police said the homeowner's spouse called 911 as he went downstairs to investigate. That's when he heard the garage door open, so he walked outside.

As the homeowner walked out the front door, one of the suspects was in the driveway and opened fire toward him.

Police said the victim wasn’t injured and went back into his home.

The terrified residents didn't see how the suspects got away, but police later said a blue 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen from the home.

Police found Parham with the jeep in southwest Atlanta. He's being charged with home invasion in the first degree, armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated assault, and motor vehicle theft. Police say Parham and another perp are responsible for a burglary the night of February 12 as well—right around the corner on Lisa Lane.

“Items from both homes were found inside the jeep that was parked in front of Mr. Parham’s apartment off Allison Court. After we secured a search warrant, we found a number of electronics and other items from both homes in his apartment as well,” said Sandy Springs Sgt. Sam Worsham.

Ann Jones said she was grateful to get her belongings returned.

“I appreciate the Sandy Springs police. It’s just great police work, and really, really dumb luck for the bad guys,” she said Tuesday as she had her doors repaired and her security system reinforced.

Detectives said Tuesday morning Parham was involved in multiple burglaries in Sandy Springs and metro Atlanta. According to police, additional charges have been filed.

Police are still searching for two suspects.
