Ross Harris trial, closing arguments

 

3:52pm: Harris pleads not-guilty. 

3:42pm: The judge gives verbal charges.

2:46pm: "Justice in this case is a guilty verdict." 

2:45pm: "Who speaks for Cooper?... The evidence speaks for Cooper." 

2:42pm: "This case is about justice, it is about that little boy Cooper Harris. Today that boy would be four years old... He is not with us because that defendant took him for his own selfish reasons." 

2:38pm: "Why would you throw light bulbs?"

2:24pm: "He remembered to get his guitar, not a living human being, out of his car."

2:17pm: "This Defendant was so good that no one who walked into this court room and knew about him."

2:10pm: State talks about Harris walking away from Cooper's dead body outside of the SUV. 

1:59pm: "He used to work with the police, you don't think he knew that he was being recorded?.... When do we get real emotion from this man? When he is arrested and knows that the gig is up." 

1:58pm: "She finds out that her son is dead and the first thing that she asks about is her husband." 

1:56pm: "There is no way he missed that child." 

1:54pm: State says that Harris was sexting at 7am that morning of Coopers death. 

1:51pm: "There was no leap to murder. murder was already there." 

1:47pm: The State begins part two of their closing statements.

12:25pm: The Defense finishes their closing arguments.

12:24pm: Defense plays video of Harris playing the guitar with Cooper. Harris is crying in his seat. 

12:20pm: "The burden of proof rest upon the state."

12:19pm: "Justice is not served only by finding someone guilty. Justice is doing what is right. What could possibly be more just than saying to the State of Georgia, we are sticking to the law and you have not done your burden of proving it. "

12:16pm: "Do not worry about any one else. Not media or family." Kilgore says that the State did not provide enough evidence. 

12:15pm: Kilgore goes over verdict form. 

12:13pm: "They want to burry him in his own sexual sins. But none of that has anything to do with Cooper dying on the 18th."

12:09pm: "None of us know how we would react." 

12:06pm: "They want you to make the leap that the word 'escape' means murder." Kilgore on the Whisper post Harris wrote that said "I love my son and all, but we both need our escape." 

12:00pm: Kilgore quotes Thomas Jefferson on jury duties. 

11:59am: "This grand evidence of motive was bogus." Kilgore says of the "child free" reddit page. "You have been mislead, you have been mislead throughout this trial." 

11:55am: "You were mislead from start to finish everyday by to Prosecution." 

11:52am: "Keep in mind that little show that was put on when you are thinking about accountability." Kilgore says of a State witness. 

11:44am: Kilgore says that no one else 'smelled death.'

11:40am: Kilgore - "Did any of you get the feeling that the Detective was just inching to say Leanna is still a suspect?" 

11:35am: "Detectives are going to say anything they can to make Ross seem suspicious." 

11:33am: "The state is suggesting that Harris had knowledge that Cooper was in the car.... Ask your self, am I being mislead again?" 

11:28am: "When the State swears to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, is it?!" Kilgore screams. 

11:27am: "He does not have a clear view, his head never goes below the roof line." Defense on Harris throwing the light bulbs in the car. 

11:24am: Defense says that the white socks Cooper was wearing in the 3D scan make a very different visual impression than the blue shoes Cooper was actually wearing that day. 

11:20am: Defense tries to make the case that the State was always against Harris. That the car seat demonstration was inaccurate. 

11:14am: Defense says that Harris had many 'false memories." 

11:04am: "Ross made no effort to wipe or get ride of info." Refering to the Kik or Whisper apps. 

10:57am: "I pose this question to you all. Was this investigation a search for the truth?" 

10:50am: "You will have to do some mental gymnastics to find Ross guilty of anything here."

10:47am: Harris can be heard crying as his Defense Attorney delivers closing statements. 

10:44am: "Do you think Leanna would have come up here and said anything she did not mean? That man ruined her life." 

10:41am: "Criminal negligence is not being careless. It is a willful & reckless act."

10:39am: "If he did not have knowledge that Cooper was there, it can't be criminal negligence." 

10:31am: " Responsible is not the same thing as criminal."

10:27am: Defense delivers their closing statements.

10:05am: "That child was baking all day in the car."

9:58am: The State does not need to prove pre-meditation, but they do need to prove malice. 

9:40am: State goes into charges of exploitation of a minor. Harris instructed a minor who said that she was in love with him on how to give oral sex. 

9:23am: "There is a lot of direct evidence and circumstantial evidence in this case." 

9:13am: "By June 18th, he knew more about leaving a child in the car than any other human being on the face of the earth." State says Harris wanted to become an advocate for 

9:09am: The State shows the whisper post that Harris commented on 45 minutes after leaving Cooper in the car.
