Police: Woman uses "LetGo" app to lure, rob victims

ATLANTA - Police are looking for a woman and a crew suspected in at least three armed robberies in the last couple of weeks that originated from online sales transactions, according to Atlanta Police.

Investigators told FOX 5's Marissa Mitchell the woman, who wears braces and is in her twenties, usually has a three-year-old child with her at the time of the crimes. They said she uses the child to put would-be customers at ease who link up with her to buy items found on the LetGo app.

"We believe that was just a way to make the victim feel comfortable," Lt. Azie Horn told Mitchell.

In her most recent hit, Lt. Horn with Atlanta Police's robbery unit said she and her child met up with a woman and her grandson in front of a house Friday on Lena Street. But the woman told the family she needed to go to another location to get the bill of sale from her mother that matched the 2006 Chevy Impala the customers wanted. According to the incident report, the family told officers the woman, her child and two cousins led them to a church parking lot on Venetian Drive. And once at that location, Horn said the group robbed the two at gunpoint and made off with their money, a phone and other possessions.

"Be cautious. Go to a location you feel comfortable and take someone with you," said Lt. Horn. "If it is too good to be true, it usually is."

Community members also reacted to the armed robbery in the area.

"It is shocking," said neighbor Keith Gilmore. "An older woman to come around and to try to do a deal with a woman with a baby and then to get swindled? She could've possibly gotten hurt."
