ATLANTA - Police said a woman was sexually assaulted by a man posing as a ride-sharing driver after leaving a popular Buckhead spot.
Atlanta police said the woman had just left the pub Fados, and was picked up in the area of Buckhead Avenue and N. Fulton Drive the evening of March 11 by a man she thought was an Uber driver.
"The driver claimed to be an Uber driver and started towards her destination home. He didn't necessarily take her home, he drove her around for several hours before he brought the vehicle to a stop and climbed into the back seat with her,” said Sgt. Warren Pickard. “While in the back seat, he used his hands to sexually assault her as well as taking control of her hands to put on his body and continues to assault her in that manner.”
Sgt. Pickard said the man then took her to a nearby ATM and forced her to withdrawal money.
A sketch of the man and a photo of the front end of the vehicle the man was driving were released by police during a press conference on Tuesday.
“The photo of the vehicle is believed to be the ford focus or something of small ford sedan. That picture was taken by the ATM machine, so we know it's the suspect's vehicle,” said Sgt. Pickard.
Police said the man eventually dropped the woman off a nearby location.
Uber confirmed to investigators that the man was not one of their drivers.
