A woman was arrested after she allegedly hit a child with her Hummer2 as the child began crossing the street after getting off a school bus, according to Newnan Police Department.

Gloria Blevins, 43, was charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident with injury. The student, 5-year-old Lulu Pedrick, was transported by air ambulance to an area hospital.

Pedrick's status is currently unknown. Police say the school bus red lights and stop signs were properly functioning at the time of the incident.

The incident occurred on Monday around 2:45 p.m. near the Avery Park Subdivision. Pedrick exited the bus, waited for the bus driver to signal her to cross the street, and then proceeded.

Police say that the Hummer2 came around a curve, changed lanes into oncoming traffic, and passed two stopped cars and the bus.

The bus driver tried to stop both the child and the vehicle, but the Hummer2 struck Pedrick with the front passenger side bumper, according to police.

The driver did not stop the vehicle and continued into the neighborhood, according to officials. Police are investigating the incident.
