Police: Two young girls injured in Newnan shooting

- Newnan Police want to identify the gunman who fired several shots into a home after two little girls were injured during a drive-by shooting Sunday night.

Police arrived at the home on Reynolds Street just after 11:30 p.m. and discovered the victims outside.

“To find out it's just 11-year-old girls inside a home at a slumber party just tugs at your heart," said Deputy Police Chief Mark Cooper.

One was shot in the cheek and there was no exit wound for that bullet. The other girl was shot in the thigh. They were both rushed to Children’s [Healthcare of Atlanta] in stable condition," said the Deputy Chief.

Investigators said four young girls were inside the home when someone outside opened fire into the living room and kitchen.

Neighbors who spoke to FOX 5's Portia Bruner said fear to outrage as residents heard the victims were young girls.

"I can't even get my wife and children to come back home. They're terrified! My girls are just six and eight years old. They don't know nothing about stuff like this. Nobody understands this. A woman inside a home with four little girls? Why would anybody shoot in that house? We don't even know if we're safe," said Deon White.

Police have not yet identified a suspect or the getaway car. Investigators hope anonymous tips will come in before anyone else gets hurt.
