Police: Gun sale went bad, three people shot

- DeKalb County Police have determined it was an apparent gun sale gone bad that left three men in the hospital suffering from gunshot wounds on Tuesday.

Initially, authorities said the shooting resulted from a carjacking, but, in an update given Wednesday, officers said that was not the case.

The shooter, who is still being treated at Grady Hospital, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, armed robbery, kidnapping and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The details surrounding the gun sale remain unclear, but police said it appears one man first stole the truck the two men were in then shot both men at different locations then ended up a shooting victim.

“So, apparently they shot the man twice and pushed him out of his truck,” said a FOX 5 News viewer who shared cell phone video of one of the crimes scene located at Young Road and Young Lane.

DeKalb County police said they were investigating the incident where the driver of a truck was shot by a man he and his passenger had apparently given a ride to.

When police responded, they were called to a second crime scene at the Park at Stonehaven apartment complex less than a half mile

“While there we got an additional call of a subject, a person shot at Whitney Chase Lane,” said Major Ken Banks.

He said the preliminary investigation revealed the shooter shot the driver of the truck at the first location then fled to the apartment complex nearby, with the passenger still in the truck.

“You gotta pay attention to your surroundings and be careful who you pick up you know, just be careful. You can’t pick up everybody, trying to do the right thing might get you hurt,” said Timothy Hudson, who lives at the complex.

Investigators are trying to determine if this was a carjacking or something else.

Police said the passenger was shot apparently by the perpetrator who himself ended up shot. Major Banks said authorities are still trying to determine who shot the third individual. Investigators are not certain if the individuals knew each other or not.

Major Banks said the third man was tracked down with police K-9s who found him wounded in the woods. All three were taken to area hospitals. Police said the shooter and one of the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries. The second victim was in critical condition.

“Somethings not right and I'm pretty sure DeKalb County police is going to do their job and come up with some kind of solution,” said LaGary Stevenson, a resident at the complex.

“We don't know the relationship of the three at this point. We will definitely find that out as this investigation progresses,” said Major Banks.

Major Banks said a weapon was recovered at the crime scene and that investigators were looking into the possibility another person may have been involved.
