A 16-year-old is in custody, accused of pistol-whipping a driver, then taking his car.  Police did catch up with him, but not before he did even more damage, desperate to escape.

Just after midnight, a driver on Newton Avenue in southeast Atlanta was surprised by a young man with a gun, and was forced to give up his car. Police said the teen suspect pistol-whipped the victim in the face.

Investigators issued a lookout for the silver Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. Officers spotted it in DeKalb County, and trapped the driver by boxing in the car near a motel on Gus Place.

Officers said that didn't stop the suspect from trying to get away. He then rammed the police cruisers blocking his exit, and when the escape plan failed, he and another teen started running, according to police.

One suspect is now in custody and the other is still on the run.

Police recovered a weapon near the car.
