Police: Stolen car full of teens shoots at police during chase

Atlanta police looking for a couple of teens who they say carjacked a man and shot at officers as police were trying to chase them down.

The carjacking happened Saturday morning around 9 a.m. on Westmoreland Circle in northwest Atlanta.  Police spotted the stolen Mercedes a short time later and pursued it.

"During the course of the pursuit, the occupants of the vehicle shot a total of five rounds," said Atlanta Police Maj. Charles Hampton.

Police say officers did not return fire. No officers were hurt.

The chase went through residential areas and ended on Cato Street when the car crashed. Officers say all five teens took off running.  Police caught three of them, including a 16-year-old girl and 17-year-old and 13-year-old boys.

As of Saturday night, the other two were still on the run.

"If the parents are watching, do the right thing, contact the robbery investigation unit, where we can come get the children so they can be held accountable," Hampton said.
