Police arrest suspect in connection to two shootings

Atlanta Police have arrested a suspect wanted for aggravated battery and is connected to two shootings.

Police say Elijah Payton was arrested after a witness claims Payton shot a man who gave him $5. According to authorities, Payton wanted to go home with the man, claiming he was homeless.

The incident occurred near 871 Juniper Street, according to police.

The man refused and gave Payton the money to get him to go away, according to police. Payton then allegedly got angry when the man told him to leave, pulled a gun, and shot the man, the witness told police.

Police say the victim was located with a gunshot wound to the stomach and was transported to the hospital.

Payton is also connected to a second shooting that happened near Peachtree Walk on September 16, according to police.

Police say Payton was arrested Thursday afternoon near Woodruff Park.
