BRASELTON, Ga. - A 14-year-old girl who was missing in Braselton was found safely around noon on Wednesday. Maria Leggiero was first reported missing on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
She went missing from her backyard in the Legends Neighborhood of Chateau Elan Estates. Leggiero was wearing a blue school uniform shirt with "Lanier Christian Academy" written on it when she disappeared.
Leggiero was playing soccer in the backyard and was without a cell phone. Her family led a search party at Lanier Christian Academy at 7 a.m. on Wednesday. Just after noon, someone called 911 saying they had spotted the girl near the Cascade Falls Subdivision off of Hamilton Mills Drive in Gwinnett County.
" This lady was driving by, lives in the neighborhood. All of the sudden she sees the girl matches the description. She calls 911," said Braselton Assistant Police Chief Lou Solis.
The girl told police she wasn't abducted and spent the night in a gazebo out front the subdivision where she was found.
"She says this is the route I took and I ended up right here,"
The teen was reunited with her parents, before meeting with investigators.
