Police search for killer of Atlanta area actor

- From Atlanta to Los Angeles, hundreds in the theater and acting community expressed an outpouring of grief after the death of a local actor.

Keenan Carter was found murdered last week in the City of South Fulton.

Wednesday morning, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office tells FOX 5 NEws it responded to the area of Connell Road and White Tail Lane in response to a man found deceased. Investigators tell FOX 5 News, the death of Keenan Carter was ruled a homicide.

Family members tell FOX 5 News, the man was found shot in the head.

Neighbors tell FOX 5 News, they heard gunshots early Wednesday morning, and saw a vehicle with doors flung wide open; investigators found Carter's body nearby.

South Fulton Police are investigating the crime. No word from detectives on a motive or possible suspects.

Carter was set to star in an upcoming Christian play called "Picking Up the Pieces" in the Tucker area on Oct. 27. It has since been put on hold.

"The cast-- we're just so heartbroken. It's just so unbelievable. I just pray that god would have mercy on whoever did this," said Tamala Coleman, the producer and director of the play.

Friends in Los Angeles shared with FOX 5 News a video of a Sunday vigil held at Los Angeles City College, where around 80 fellow actors and classmates paid tribute to the fallen alumnus.

Carter, a Westlake High School graduate, moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams before moving back to the Metro.

Loved ones described Carter as a positive person who motivated others and fellow actors to pursue their dreams. Many described him as a spiritual person and a man of faith.

"Keenan-- such a spirit filled young man. So vibrant. I just cannot imagine someone take his life," Coleman said.

A funeral is set for Wednesday in Atlanta. A tribute is planned for Carter Friday in Los Angeles.

Donations for the funeral can be reached through the family's GoFundMe page.
