Police: Peeping Tom suspect killed in officer-involved shooting

The GBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a suspect dead in Athens-Clarke County Saturday night.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, officers were called to a home on Hull Road with reports of a Peeping Tom.

When officers got to the location, a victim identified the suspect as a man who lived at a nearby home on the 1200 block of Hull Road.

The officers went to the home of the suspect, later identified as 63-year-old Carlton Steve Brooks. According to the GBI, the officers noticed he was inside with a shotgun.

Officers told Brooks to put down the weapon, but investigators say he opened the door and pointed it at one of the officers. The officer then fire their weapon twice.

Medics transported Brooks to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave while investigators examine in the incident.
