Officers responded to the 911 call around 9 a.m. in the area of Roberts Drive and Lexington Drive.Kind strangers who witnesses the ordeal corralled the puppies away from the middle of the road.

"Those puppies were seconds away from being hit by a car," said Sgt. Amanda Stein with Sandy Springs Police. "It's absolutely heartless," she said.

One kind stranger took a puppy home; Sgt. Stein took the rest to Belle Isle Animal Hospital, who checked out and treated the puppies. Both were determined to be healthy and were treated for ticks and given vaccinations.

Police want the driver and former owner caught, and call them a danger.

"If they did this to an innocent animal-- imagine what they would do to someone else," Sgt. Stein said.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Sandy Springs Police Department.
