Police: Mother arrested after leaving toddler in hot car

A woman was arrested Tuesday night for leaving a child in a hot car at a parking lot in Stone Mountain.

DeKalb County Police say the woman left her infant daughter in a car with the windows rolled up and the doors locked while she was shopping at a Kroger store on South Hairston Road.

An off-duty police officer, who identified himself as Jason Williams, told FOX 5 News a concerned citizen told him about the little girl in the car.

He says he was about to break the window when the little girl's mother arrived at the vehicle.

Officer Williams told FOX 5 News the child was in the hot car about half an hour.

The woman, identified as Georgette Hall, was arrested.

She said nothing when asked about her daughter by FOX 5's George Franco.

The little girl, nearly two years old, was left with a family member after medics determined she was okay.

Eyewitnesses expressed shock after seeing the child pulled out of the car by officer Williams.

"It's gotta be 100 out here and to leave her in a car, windows up and then she's a baby, you just don't do that," said Kenya Williams.

The little girl's mother was charged with reckless conduct and taken to jail.
