Police have released new details about a Gwinnett County murder and attempted suicide that left a woman dead and her husband critically injured early Monday morning.

Police said Alton Kelly, 53, and his wife, 45-year-old Melissa Kelly, were both found unconscious with gunshot wounds at their Bridge Walk Drive home in unincorporated Lawrenceville around 5 a.m. Monday.

Paramedics rushed the husband and wife to Gwinnett Medical Center, but Mrs. Kelly didn't survive. Loved ones have set up a GoFundMe account to help with expenses.

Mr. Kelly, who's in stable but critical condition, has been charged with felony murder and four counts of aggravated assault. As soon as he's discharged from the hospital, police said he'll be taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.

Investigators said they think Kelly shot his wife, possibly multiple times, before turning the gun on himself.

Police said the shooting appears to be a domestic-related incident.

Three extended family members, including a child, were inside the home when the shooting happened. Detectives believe Mr. Kelly shot through the bedroom door where they were sleeping, before attempting to kill himself. None of the three family members suffered any injuries, according to investigators.

Police aren't sure what triggered the violence, but said officers responded to two separate domestic-related calls at the home on Saturday. Detectives do not believe any other suspects were involved, and are calling the shooting a murder-attempted suicide.
