DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Police are on the lookout for two people they say shot a grandfather in the chest.
Investigators tell FOX 5 that the 65-year-old man was on his way to pick up his grandkids from school Friday morning when he was confronted by the suspects.
According to police, the man left his SUV running in the driveway of his home on the 4000 block of Stonington Trace in Ellenwood.
"When he returned to go get his car, somebody was in the car, and they just shot him," neighbor Darnyce Hill said.
Police say the grandfather confronted the two men attempting to steal his car.
"When he resisted he was shot one time in the chest," DeKalb County Police Department spokesperson Shiera Campbell said.
Medics rushed him to the hospital in critical condition. Police now say the victim is expected to survive.
Neighbors say this violent crime has put them on edge.
"This was daytime. Somebody trying to go to work ... that's something," Hills said.
So far, police have not released the names of any possible suspects.
