DeKalb County Police confirmed Thursday a 20-year-old aspiring rapper was shot, killed, and found dead in the middle of the street Wednesday evening in a fight stemming from a copy of a mixtape.

Police said the home at the center of the crime scene had a recording studio and the victim had previously worked with the people at the home to record music.

Investigators have not released the young man's identity and are trying to notify his family. The shooter has been charged with murder, and police have not released his name.

The ordeal happened on Calumet Road around 2 p.m. Police said the rapper came to the home and requested a copy of his mix tape; when told he could not obtain a copy, police said a fight started, and the suspect fired at the musician. The 20-year-old victim ran out of the house and collapsed outside, where officers later found him, according to investigators.

Police said someone inside the home called 911, and the 21-year-old shooter stayed at the scene and was taken into custody for questioning. Police announced Thursday the suspect is now facing charges.

"It's weird seeing a dead body on the street," said one neighbor, as she and others watched investigators comb through the scene while children arrived home from the school bus.
