Police are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a car and killed while crossing a DeKalb County road.

Police said 25-year-old Martavious Parker was crossing Rockbridge Road at around 11:40 Sunday night when he was hit by a vehicle speeding east on the road. The car, a black sedan, then fled the scene.

Parker died from his injuries, police said.

Co-workers at the McDonalds on Rockbridge Road where he worked are pleading for the driver to come forward.

“He was a nice guy. it shouldn’t have happened to him,” said Ann Jackson, Parker’s manager. “We called him Memphis. He always wanted to work.”

Jackson said Parker moved to the area from Tennessee. He joined the team about two months ago on the grill and was on his way to a fresh start.
