GAINESVILLE, Ga. - A Gainesville man has been arrested after a witness discovered a 1-year-old child had been left alone in his car.
Deputies with the Hall County Sheriff's Office arrested 31-year-old Mateo Alonzo Y Alonzo on Friday. He was charged with second-degree cruelty to children.
Officials said they received a call that an infant was left alone in a vehicle found on Marlow Drive in Gainesville. The witness had already removed the child from the car before calling 911.
The infant was treated by Hall County medical units for dehydration before being transported to a local hospital.
The baby was free of any other injuries and is now doing fine, police said.
Alonzo was found inside the house and was arrested. At the time of the incident, the baby's mother was at work.
An immigration hold has been placed on Alonzo as well as the other charges. This case is currently under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff's Office.
