Police investigate after officer fires shot at suspect, no one injured

- Police in Midtown closed off a block of Peachtree Street after police said they opened fire on a suspect Tuesday evening.

Atlanta Police said responded to the 900 block of Peachtree Street NW after a report of a pedestrian robbery. Investigators said officers encountered an individual matching the description of the suspect near the intersection of Peachtree and 8th streets.

Police said the person did not show his hands when officers commanded him to do so. Investigators said an officer was forced to open fire after the subject “produced an object perceived to be a handgun.”

Only one round was fired, according to police, and no one was struck.

Police said they have taken a suspect into custody.

A block of Peachtree Street between 8th and 7th streets as well as a block along 8th Street between Peachtree and Juniper streets was closed Tuesday evening as investigators combed over the scene.
