ALPHARETTA, Ga. - A body found inside a home that was destroyed by fire in Alpharetta had been shot, according to police.
Alpharetta firefighters responded to a home on Birch Rill Drive in the Birkshire Manor neighborhood on Saturday. After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters said they found blood on the front door, which was locked.
Crews were able to enter through an unlocked back door, and discovered the body of a Hispanic male, who was renting the home, police said.
The body was transported to a local hospital, where it was determined that the deceased male had suffered a gunshot wound. Police say the death was a homicide.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation as a homicide.
