Police: 2 arrested after street race wreck kills teen

The Gainesville Police Department has arrested two men after they say an illegal street race led to a crash that killed a teenaged occupant of one of the cars involved.

Police and emergency personnel responded to a motor vehicle crash on Tuesday, Oct. 30 on Gainesville's Millside Parkway. The car involved had crossed the median and struck a tree.

The department said the driver of the car, 18-year-old Gainesville resident Brandon Eduardo Sanchez, was racing another vehicle driven by 17-year-old Kevin A. Padilla Alvarez and lost control on Millside Parkway.

Sanchez was moved to a nearby hospital in stable condition and was later released.

His passenger, 17-year-old Jesus Martinez Mondragon, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sanchez, who is currently being held in the Hall County Jail, was charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, racing, failure to maintain lane, striking a fixed object and violation of class CP license.

Alvarez has been charged with being a party to the crime of first-degree homicide by vehicle, racing, and reckless driving.
