Officials in Cherokee County have released new information regarding a reported horse death.

Last week, investigators have determined the death of a show horse was not from a gunshot wound like they originally reported.

Police said the 8-year-old show horse, named "Toby," was found dead along Union Hill Road last Friday.

Officials said they found a wound on Toby's head that, investigators said, initially looked like a gunshot wound.

But Wednesday night, authorities confirm that Toby instead suffered blunt force trauma to the head and was not shot.

Officers said Toby was most likely kicked in the head by another horse while he was grazing.
