Police find man shot to death during domestic call

- A man is dead after a shooting at a Union City apartment complex early Wednesday morning.

The Union City Police Department said that officers were dispatched to the Evergreen Commons Apartments on Highway 138 around 5 a.m. Wednesday. Officers found a man in an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound.

The man’s girlfriend, who was at the apartment as well, was taken into custody.

Neighbors told FOX 5's Marc Teichner that they heard an argument inside the apartment.

"It's a sad situation," said neighbor Cynthia Cooks.

"Something like this I would never thought was going to occur here," said neighbor Isaac Josey.

Maureen Jordan, neighbor says, "I was already woke this morning, and I heard the helicopter flying over my building and by that time my daughter came back in the house and tell me somebody had got killed at the apartment complex and when I come out the door and come around here I noticed that I had already met those people before."

Maureen Jordan said the man who was killed and his girlfriend, who now faces a murder charge, once invited her over for a cookout after learning it was her birthday. Jordan said they were a friendly couple.

"They seemed to be nice people and every time I passed by I always waived at them," said neighbor Maureen Jordan.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim or the woman arrested.

The investigation is ongoing.
