New FOX 5 Poll: Trump leads Clinton in Georgia

A new FOX 5 poll released Friday afternoon shows Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump with a four point lead over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in Georgia.

The poll also showed incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson at more than 50 percent for the first time, which would keep him out of a runoff.

The presidential poll of 571 registered likely voters in Georgia has Trump at 50 percent, Clinton 46 percent, and Libertarian Gary Johnson at 3 percent and with only 1 percent undecided.

The U.S. Senate poll in Georgia shows Isakson leading Democrat Jim Barksdale, 51 percent vs. 42 percent , with Libertarian Allen Buckley at 3 percent and 4 percent undecided.

A poll of likely Florida voters showed Clinton in the lead in the Sunshine State.

Opinion Savvy conducted the poll of likely voters in Florida for FOX 5 sister stations FOX 13 in Tampa and FOX 35 in Orlando.

FOX 5 Political Analyst Matt Towery said, “For months Georgia and Florida have dovetailed in their results, but we are starting to see that change. The Opinion Savvy poll in Florida released for FOX 13 Tampa and FOX 35 Orlando shows Clinton ahead by about the same margin as Trump enjoys in Georgia. The simple reason for this is the barrage of negative ads that are being aired against Trump in Florida versus the lack of such ads in Georgia. Trump must answer those attacks with more ads to hope to win Florida and Clinton must take to the airwaves to hope to pull off an upset in Georgia. I will note that I believe the Libertarian vote in other polls is too high and these numbers are more reflective of what we will see on Election Day.”

Towery added, “Let me stress that all polls this year are struggling to determine the actual turn out levels for various demographic groups. And other polls don't even try and often overweight one party over the other. This is the first time in my career that I do not believe that the polls can give us a really accurate prediction of how any state will vote. And I say that recognizing that Opinion Savvy, our pollster, is one of the best this season.”

The FOX 5 poll was conducted by Opinion Savvy, rated the third most accurate pollster in the nation earlier this year by Bloomberg News.

Towery’s son, Matt Jr., oversaw the Opinion Savvy polls in Georgia and Florida.
