New FOX 5 poll: Ossoff leading Handel, others in 6th District race

A new poll conducted for FOX 5 days before Georgia’s 6th District Congressional election shows Democrat Jon Ossoff still leading Republican Karen Handel and other Republicans in a crowded field.

The Opinion Savvy poll conducted for FOX 5 shows Democrat Ossoff leading the race at 42percent, followed by former Georgia Secretary of State Handel at 21 percent.

Two Republicans, State Senator Judson Hill and former Johns Creek City Councilman Bob Gray, are tied for third at 11 percent each.

Former State Senator Dan Moody, also a Republican, is next at 9 percent.

The remaining candidates in a crowded field of 18 split 3 percent, with another 3 percent of the voters undecided.

Each of the candidates hopes to succeed Republican Tom Price, who stepped down when he was confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services in the Trump administration.

All of the candidates, no matter what their party affiliation is, will be on the ballot for the April 18 election. The top two vote getters will face off in a June 20 runoff.

The new poll follows a similar one conducted in March for FOX 5 News by Opinion Savvy.

Like in March, the new poll shows if Ossoff qualifies for a runoff, he will face a neck-and-neck race against each of the 4 top Republicans.

In an Ossoff/Handel runoff, Ossoff has 44 percent, Handel 42 percent, and 14 percent are undecided.

In an Ossoff/Gray runoff, Ossoff has 46 percent, Gray 45 percent, and 9 percent are undecided.

In an Ossoff/Hill runoff, Ossoff has 47 percent, Hill 44 percent, and 9 percent are undecided.

In a Moody/ Ossoff runoff, Moody has 48 percent, Ossoff 45 percent, and 7 percent are undecided.

The poll conducted by Opinion Savvy surveyed 437 registered voters in the 6th District, and has a margin of error of 4.6 percent.

Millions of dollars of money from outside of Georgia have poured into Ossoff’s campaign, as Democrats see a chance to pull off what would be considered an upset in what has been a traditional Republican district.
