Returning valley soldier reunited with dog

When you get deployed to Iraq, finding someone to take care of your best friend can be a challenge.

"I just couldn't give him up," Army Specialist Perry Wang said. "He's such a good dog, you know, and on top of that, when I did my research and found his foster parents."

Wang found the foster parents for Zeus through the Arizona Humane Society's Project Active Duty. Annie Whaley and Roxanne Couey fostered Zeus for 15 months while Wang was away.

"I'm a veteran too, though I was in the Air Force, so doing this is great, yeah, Perry did his service for the country and we're doing out service for him with his dog," Whaley said.

It often goes beyond service because foster parents often fall in love with pets while their owners are deployed.

Today, they gave Zeus back to Perry.

"It's a testament to their dedication to the program and to pets," said Ashliegh Goebel with the humane society. "They just want to serve these military people who have helped out (the) country."
