Police Officer Helps Student Tie a Tie before Formal

A police officer came to the rescue this past weekend, but not in the way you might think...

UC Merced students were in downtown Merced, California Saturday night getting ready to attend their Winter Ball and Officer Jason Jacklitsch was working the door that night and that's when he came to the rescue of a student who wasn't quite read to walk in.

"The male walked up, and I believe he had his tie around his neck and it was just kind of dangling, and I didn't know if that was the new style or if he was looking for some help."

Officer Jacklitsch has worked in law enforcement for 14 years and usually ties up the bad guys, but this was not his usual case.

"I was kind of watching him and he was just standing there and his girlfriend said 'hey, can you help him tie this.' So I went up and tried to tie it around his neck."

And when that didn't work, the officer went back to his basic training. He placed the tie around his own neck to tie it, and then gave it back to the young man.

Since then, a video of the encounter that was uploaded to Facebook has more than 80,000 views and over 500 shares. It was something the officer wasn't prepared for.

"I'm surprised how many people saw it, I guess I'm not big on social media," Jacklitsch said.

The young man who needed help with his tie was also surprised by the amount of views, commenting on the video "well this is embarrassing for me." Luckily, his date saw it as something endearing saying "baby it was super cute, now we will never forget it."

"In any of our powers I guess we're here to help so he needed help tying a tie and I was there," Officer Jacklitsch said.

Officer Jacklitsch was still working the door when the ball ended that night and he said on his way out the student stopped again to thank him for the help with the tie.
