Koala hitches 10-mile ride inside car wheel

An unlikely hitchhiker goes for a ten-mile ride in Australia.

A driver in Australia says he found a koala clinging to the axle of his four-wheel drive vehicle.

The driver says he stopped the vehicle after hearing cries coming from the traumatized animal. The female koala crawled into the wheel arch while the car was parked in the hills on the outskirts of Adelaide, the state capital of South Australia.

Emergency crews took the wheel off and helped a wildlife rescue worker free the animal.

Koalas are listed as a vulnerable species under the Australian conservation law of 2012. There are reports of fewer the one hundred thousand left in the wild.
