HARRISBURG, Pa. - He made a promise in the fourth grade no one thought he’d keep, but then he sees her.
Pennsylvania teens Mary Lapkowicz and Ben Moser became close friends in the fourth grade and made a sweet deal to each other.
Mary, who has Down syndrome, developed a special bond with the boy that looked after her. Ben told his mom that when they were old enough, that he was going to ask Mary to prom.
In the sixth grade, Mary and her family moved school districts and the two friends ended up attending different high schools. The rival high schools played each other during a football game and two friends crossed paths again. Ben remembered his fourth grade promise that he declared to his mom and Mary many years earlier.
Ben surprised Mary with a "promposal" that included balloons with the word ‘prom’ on it. Mary had no idea that Ben had plans to ask her to prom and was surprised by the grand gesture. Mary, of course, said yes!
